SOUTH WEST ALBINISM NETWORK ASSOCIATION (ANA) SET TO MARK UN INTERNATIONAL ALBINISM AWARENESS DAY

The Albinism Network Association (ANA) has mapped out plans to commemorate the 2023 UN International Albinism awareness Day in the South West States of Nigeria which are EKITI, ONDO, OSUN, OYO, OGUN AND LAGOS STATE.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the State/South West Coordinator of ANA, Ambassador Muyiwa Abegunde said the programme will be held
at the Medical Centre Staff Club Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-araba Lagos State on Saturday 24th June 2023.

The theme of the celebration is ‘INCLUSION IS STRENGTH’

According to Abegunde, on 18th December 2014, UN resolution was adopted declaring 13 June International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) with the aim of creating increasing awareness and understanding of albinism in order to fight against global discrimination and stigma against persons with albinism.”

He said:”Since the very first IAAD in 2015, the international community has come together to highlight the continuing stigma and discrimination against persons with albinism, against which States must take action.

“This year’s theme builds on from last years’ theme of ensuring the inclusion of the voices of persons with albinism in all sectors of life. It emphasis the importance of inclusion of a diversity of groups from both within and outside the albinism community.

“Albinism Network Association ANA will Organize a Conference and the Conference will adopt the principles on Specific messages to increase awareness on albinism and effective leadership as a tool for promoting inclusive society.

Delegates Selected from each State will represent the South West in Nigeria.

Also, the founder of the Albinism Network Association (ANA) Sir. Adeyrmi Dada called on goverment to give better attention to welfare of persons living with Albinism.
