African Union, AU has met to discuss strategies for improving Small and Medium Enterprises towards boosting productivity, saying that SMEs are the backbone of development in job creation.
This was made known by the Head of African Union – Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals, AU-ETTIM, Mrs. Ron Osman, during the 2nd SME Development Program Partnership Platform (ASMEDD PP) held in Benin Republic.
As obtained from the official Twitter handle of AU-ETTIM, @AU_ETTIM, Mrs. Osman said, “SMEs are the backbone of our development in job creation and production on the continent. We need to improve the operating space of SMEs to ensure that they can produce and supply the continental and global market”.
In a statement by AU-ETTIM, the main objective of the meeting is to pursue the AUC’s ongoing discussions and programmes on SME development, and financing.
