2023: Varsity Don tasks Journalists to embrace transparency, truthfulness

…as BSES holds Press Day

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, has tasked Journalists in Ekiti State to embrace transparency and truthfulness in their reportage during the 2023 general elections.

The FUOYE Vice-Chancellor stated this at the 2022 Press Day of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State, BSES, Chapel in Ado-Ekiti.

Represented by Prof. Jeremiah Omotola, Fasina, who spoke on the theme of the lecture, “Broadcast Media and Expectations in the 2023 General Elections” urged media practitioners on the need to lead the Agenda Setting through programmes like debates.

While x-raying the theme of the lecture, the Vice Chancellor expressed worry over inflation in the economy which has taken over the purchasing power of Nigerians as well as the level of insecurity in the nation.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, BSES Chapel, Mr Kelechi David highlighted some of the activities of the union tailored towards the welfare of staff noting that the union would continue to work to uplift the profession.

He appreciated the efforts of the organising committee towards making the program successful.

The State Council Chairman of NUJ, Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela represented by the Council’s Secretary, Mr Kayode Babatuyi also applauded the BSES Chapel with a call to Journalists to embrace self development saying there was the need for them to take over the social media as Bloggers for professionalism.

The General Manager of BSES, Mr Olurotimi Popoola described the event as outstanding.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaja Habibat Adubiaro represented by the SSA Special Duties, Mr Femi Aduloju emphasized the need for Journalists to embrace factual information.

The Obaleo of Erinmope, Oba Sunday Aikuirawo and the Olupoti, Oba Oladipupo Kolade graced the event.

The award recipients at the event, the Ekiti State Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede, the Spokesperson, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi, a Stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Dele Philips and Bowale Poju acknowledged BSES NUJ for the honour bestowed on them.

The Chairman, NUJ BSES Chapel Press Day Committee, Mrs Kemi Akin-Oluwadare was full of gratitude to God who has made the program a success
