Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has slammed opposers of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s endorsement of Godwin Akpabio as the Senate President of the 10th Assembly saying that the decision of the next Senate President is confined on the ruling party.
The former Governor made this known today during an interactive session with newsmen in Television Continental, TVC.
According to him, he obliged that countering the president’s choice of who emerges as the Senate President is like taunting the principles of democracy as it is the duty of the ruling party to produce leaders for effective administration.
He said, “Where there is no smooth relationship with the leadership of the national assembly, we can’t have a very good administration.
“Seeing that the President is in support of Akpabio and based on the ranking of the National Assembly, Akpabio is most senior as such, based on the rules of the Assembly, it must be Akpabio if not, it would probably be Oshiomole.
“Our democracy has not grown to that level where we can say the ruling party will not have influence; no, party must have influence. In the choice of leadership position, if the ruling party doesn’t have influence, it shows that there is no democracy.”
